Why I built kywrd.
Headline: 18 of 30 charactersNot a pitch — the actual reason this exists.
The dashboards I could find
I ship an app on both the App Store and Google Play. Every ASO tool I tried did one of two things: it showed me a chart and stopped there, or it priced itself for a UA team with a five-figure monthly budget — not a developer doing this alone, at night, between everything else.
Neither respected what I actually needed, which was smaller than either of them assumed: tell me what to change, on the specific field the store actually reads, and tell me when you’re guessing instead of measuring.
Nobody was labeling the guesses
That second part turned out to be the harder problem to find anywhere. Apple publishes real search popularity for keywords. Google publishes nothing — every Play “search volume” number you have ever seen, including the ones sitting under a confident chart, is somebody’s model. I could not find a tool that told me which of its own numbers were which. So kywrd says so, on every number, every screen: measured, modeled, or heuristic, never presented as more certain than it is.
“Built by a developer who needed it. Tenant zero was our own app.”
I built kywrd for the app I already ship, not a demo. Every rule it enforces and every recommendation it writes is one I checked against my own listing first. If the metadata generator produces something wrong, it is because it happened to me — not because I imagined a use case in the abstract.
Where the model fits, and where it doesn’t
kywrd uses a language model (Anthropic’s, specifically — see /privacy for exactly what it sees) to draft the listing copy and explain what changed in a competitor’s metadata. The model does not decide what reaches your store listing — you do. Every draft it produces passes through the same character-limit validator that gates the product before you ever see it, because a model that can miscount a character is not something you can trust to publish for you, and neither can I.
Who this is for
kywrd exists because I needed it and could not find it. If you ship on both stores and are tired of dashboards built for a UA team you don’t have, I probably built this for you too.
